Seth Conrad Rich (January 3, 1989 - July 10, 2016) was a 27-year-old Democratic National Committee (DNC) employee who was fatally shot in Bloomingdale, Washington, D.C. The case is still under investigation by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.
Seth was graduate of the College of Arts at Jesuit Creighton University. Seth studied political science and public policy where he threw himself into student politics, becoming the vice president of the student union.
Seth had moved to D.C. after college to pursue a career in politics. He was endlessly passionate about helping those less fortunate, and made significant headway on doing just that, despite his life being cut so tragically short.
Seth grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, in a Jewish family. In 2014 he began working for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), where his title at the time he died was Voter Expansion Data Director. Among his DNC activities was the development of a computer application to help voters locate polling stations. He did not own an automobile and commuted to work by walking or riding a bicycle. In his spare time, he volunteered at the Humane Society.
At School Seth loved speech and debate and played on the soccer team. 'Academic debates was probably when his interest in politics started,' Seth's Father said. 'He worked for the Ben Nelson Senate campaign when he was a junior in high school and when he was at Creighton University, he was an intern at the Senator's office. Ben Nelson was a mentor to him."
Seth had everything going for him, not only his career but his personal life as well. It was through work that Seth had met his girlfriend, Kelsey Mulka. They worked at the same polling company together in DC several years ago.
